Guidance to U9 Soccer Coaches, Players and Parents
Spring 2013
Location and Times for U9 Spring Soccer:
Spring Soccer will be held at the new Track & Field area at Pine Banks Park on Sundays between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Pine Banks Park is on Main Street at the Malden/Melrose line - on the right, across from Hunt Drug Store. There will be 2 session each week with 6 teams participating at the earlier session and 4 teams participating during the later session. The park will be broken into 4 areas, with 2 teams playing in each of the assigned areas. Each week the session will consist of an approximately 60 minute practice and an approximately 60 minute scrimmage.
The Park and Playing Fields:
We will split the infield of the track oval at Pine Banks Park into 3 playing fields, trying to use as many of the lines in the in the existing adult soccer field to form end or side lines on our fields. Field numbers will run from Main Street into the Parks, with Field #1 being the closest to Main Street and Field #3 being the field furthest into the park.

What to wear:
Please wear your Fall 2012 jersey for Spring 2013 each week - please note that if you change teams from the team you were on during Fall 2012, your coach will provide a new uniform.
Wear shin pads
You can wear cleats, indoor soccer shoes or sneakers, however, cleats or indoor shoes are not required.
Do not wear watches, jewelry, baseball hats
If you have a size 3 soccer ball, please bring it to use during practice
Bring water each week!
Session Format:
Each Session will be approximately 120 minutes. Please use the first 60 minutes to organize, warm up and cover practice drills.

12 Basic Rules:
The purpose for Spring Session is to have fun and develop skills through organized drills and scrimmages. The Outdoor game is conducted on a larger field with more players than Indoor - more space to spread out.
1. We will play 6 v. 6, with a goalie
2. Portable Pugg goals will provide goals
3. Substitutions should be made when play stops and should occur approximately every 5 - 10 minutes. Players should get an equal amount of playing time
4. If the ball goes out of the side bounds it should be "thrown-in" as quickly as possible by the team that did not kick it out
5. The game will start with a kick-off at center, as will the second half of the game
6. After each goal, the team scored upon will start again by kicking-off at center. A successful kick-off means that the ball needs to roll 1 revolution forward and be touched by another player
7. Hand balls result in an INDIRECT kick by the opposing side
8. No slide-tackling allowed, results in an INDIRECT kick to the opposing side
9. No pushing with the arms or hands allowed, results in an INDIRECT kick to the opposing side
10. No tripping from behind allowed, results in an INDIRECT kick to the opposing side
11. No checking with hips allowed, results in an INDIRECT kick to opposing side
12. No off-sides called
